Recording Payments

Once you have made a payment to your debt(s), you can record the payments you have made in the Pay Off Debt app. There are buttons you can use to do so: Minimum button, Custom button, and Record All Payments button.

Once you’ve recorded a payment or payments, the current balances and the amounts that went toward interest and principal will be automatically estimated. (However, please note that even though the estimates are usually very accurate, they ARE only estimates. Check with your creditors to find out exact numbers.)

How to Record a Minimum Payment

If you want to record your set minimum payment for an individual debt, you can use the Minimum button.

Tapping the Minimum button for the first debt in your list will record both the minimum payment entered for that debt and the Additional Amount you’ve set in Settings > Configure Snowball > Additional Amount.

Tapping Minimum button for any other debt in the list will record only that debt’s minimum payment amount.

To use the Minimum option:

1. Tap the Debts button
   The Debts screen will appear.
2. Scroll to the individual debt you want to record a minimum payment for.
3. Tap the Minimum button to record your payment for that debt.

   A message box will appear.

4. Tap Apply.

   The payment will be recorded, and you can view it by tapping the View History button.

How to Record a Custom Payment

If you want to record a custom payment for an individual debt — such as if you are making more than one payment to it during the same month, or if you’re making a larger than normal monthly payment — you can use the Custom button.

To use the Custom option:

1. Tap the Debts button
   The Debts screen will appear.
2. Scroll to the individual debt you want to record a custom payment for.
3. Tap the Custom button for that debt.

   You will be taken to the Custom Payment screen.

4. Tap the Amount field.

   The keyboard will appear.

5. Enter the amount of the custom payment.
6. If you want to record 100% of the custom payment to principal only (which means that the entire payment amount will go to reduce the balance of your debt):
   

   
   a. Tap the Apply custom payment to principal only option.
   The Yes/No options will appear.

   b. Tap Yes.
   You will be returned to the previous screen.

   c. Tap Apply.
   The payment will be recorded, and you can view it by tapping the View History button.

   OTHERWISE

   If you want to record the payment so that it is recorded normally (with a part of the payment amount going to reduce the balance of your debt, and a part of the payment amount going to pay interest):

   a. Tap Apply.
   The payment will be recorded, and you can view it by tapping the View History button.

How to Record Payments For All Debts at Once

If you want to record all of your payments at once, you can use the Record All Payments button. This will also record the amount in Configure Snowball against the first debt in your list.

To use the Record All Payments option:

1. Tap the Debts button
   The Debts screen will appear.
2. Tap the Record All Payments button, which looks like two plus signs:

   A message box will appear.

3. Tap Apply.

   The payments will be recorded for all of the debts in your list. You can view them by tapping the View History button on each individual debt.
